Injuries Survey

The information collected from this survey will determine multiple things. It will help us to better understand what types of injuries are common among what age groups and what levels of physical activity those age groups are involved in. This will help physical therapists to better understand how they can advise their patients to make sure that they will prevent as many injuries as they can. This will also help physical therapists to advise patients on how much physical activity they need to be doing during a week. This will also help them to better advise patients on what type of physical activity they should be doing during the week. Sometimes too much of the wrong type of physical activity can be harmful to one’s healing muscles or bones that are recovering from injuries. Physical therapists should know their patients’ health and injury history in order to better assess their physical therapy needs.

For the Game, for the World

The World Cup has existed since 1930. This tournament brings together the best soccer teams all across the world. The World Cup is really one of the only events that bring most countries together. That is what makes it so special. The world cup isn’t just soccer games; it is a celebration of the world. What or who is in charge of making it all happen? How is it paid for? I will give brief details to answer these two questions.

First, since 1930, the Federation International of Association Football (FIFA) has sponsored the games. Every four years they are responsible for making sure that the Cup takes place. FIFA uses the World Cup to generate a lot of money which they do through media marketing. In the 2010 South Africa World Cup FIFA generated $3.7 billion in sales. $2.4 billion came directly from television sales. The other $1.3 billion came from marketing and sponsorship sales. With this revenue, FIFA is able to create a reserve which funds its activities for the next four years until the next World Cup.

The World Cup is hosted in a different country every four years. And in more cases then not is very harmful to hosting country. Because of the high demand of bringing in teams from all over the world and their loyal fans, hosting countries have to build new stadiums, remodel old ones, fix airports, build hotels, and fix roads. Depending on how outdated the country is, this could be a very expensive event. Most countries go into extreme debt and through the games and tourism make only 10 percent back of what they put into it. This dramatic occurrence is called the “World Cup Effect.”

While there may be many negative aspects to the World Cup, the positive side always outweighs. The unification of the world for the short period of time is very addicting. The World Cup has made the world a better place to live in.

Who’s the audience?
What benefits do messengers have when they study and know their audiences?
  1.  1   Messengers can make strong connections. If the messengers know the audience’s general lifestyle, personalities, hobbies, and surroundings they will have a much higher chance of getting their information across effectively. Because of culture, people get used to hearing words in a certain way that makes sense to them. The messenger can be the smartest person in the world, but if he or she doesn't study the people receiving the message, it will be a waste of time.  By knowing the audience’s background, the messenger can make important connections that allow the people listening to feel comfortable and accept what is being said.

  2. 2.    Messengers can be trusted. Trust between two parties develops as relationships grow stronger. Children trust their parents because they know their parents more than anyone. People trust their best friends because their relationship is strong. If the messenger is the audience’s friend, will they listen? Most definitely! People love listening to someone that they know and trust. They love this because the messenger has taken time to get to know them and has built a strong relationship.

  3. 3.      Messengers can know how people feel about the subject being presented. Knowing if the audience has negative or positive feelings toward what is being said is critical. If they are positive about it then the messenger can deliver the information in a direct approach. A direct approach is where the main ideas are given right up front. If the audience has negative feelings about the subject, then the messenger can use an indirect approach. An indirect approach allows the messenger to give facts about the main topic early and persuade the audience to accept the main ideas later presented in the message.

If messengers show genuine interest in getting to know the people they speak with, they will be much more successful and have a powerful reputation everywhere they go.

Giving and getting it
Giving and getting feedback can be awkward for many people. Most people wish to keep the work they do private and allow only the professor who will grade their assignment see the piece they have done. Some people don’t feel that confident both in their skills to write and in their ability to give knowledgeable, educated feedback.
It is impossible to have successful writing without this process. No one is capable of writing a paper and having it be perfect the first time drafted. Even if the author thinks it is written properly, chances are the author is just blinded to his or her own mistakes. A second or third view by someone other than the author is needed to bring out all the errors.

If one understands the importance of the giving and getting feedback process, then one will feel the responsibility of learning how to give feedback. This means that it is important to give concise proofreading remarks that are clear and make sense. The following link is to a blog that explains the importance and seriousness of proofreading. http://proofreaders-editors.blogspot.com/

OABC Format

OABC format is the coolest format in existence for writing text. It is a design that makes writing easy for the writer and reading easy for the reader.  It is a very logical and systematic procedure and makes writing doable for those that have a hard time coming up with all that philosophical fluff that means a whole lot of nothing. I will be explaining how the format works by describing what each part of OABC means.
O is for Opening.  This can be the opening paragraph of a text. This paragraph is what introduces the topic of the writing to the reader. Its design is to get the reader hooked and wanting to know more. It is wise to provide background information of the topic and anything else that would interest the reader to continue reading.
A is for Agenda. The agenda is what maps out the whole rest of the text. The agenda can be positioned at the end of the opening paragraph and states what the writer will discuss.  This is a key organization factor that helps the writer focus on what needs to be stated and helps the reader not get lost.
B is for Body. The body is about 80 to 90 percent of the text. In this portion the writer tackles the topic and covers in detail the key points listed in the agenda.
C is for Closing.  The closing may be the concluding paragraph of the text. The writer can summarize main points mentioned in the body in this paragraph, recommend action, and make conclusions.

Following the OABC format is a road to success in business writing. It gets the job done. The text comes out clear, organized, and professional. Everyone is satisfied.

Communication is of most importance among all types of people in all places. If people were unable to communicate by one form or another, the world would be in complete chaos. Communication is what allows everything to function. With that being said, communication is of the highest value. All people must strive to develop refined communication skills so they can be functional and capable of doing anything. Communication is especially important in business. Communication is what gets messages from employers down to employees. I will discuss management functions, which is one key element of business communication. There are four basic management functions: planning, organizing, monitoring, and leading.
Managers plan. They need to be aware of everything that is going on around them. They must be able to listen to employees and customers, receive feedback, and then draw up a plan to improve any situation.
Managers organize. It is their job to execute the plan. They can delegate roles and responsibilities to employees and explain very clearly their tasks. It is important that managers trust their employees to do their job. They need to avoid watching and critiquing their every move.
Managers monitor. They document, review, and monitor performance. They can drop by their employee’s work site frequently and make sure things are in order. They perform interviews and gather interviewees concerns. They take care of all performance violations and resolve problems without hurting relationships.
Managers lead. Managers must be good examples. They must show by the way they act how any situation should be handled.  Managers need to have a strong vision of goals that need to be met and be able to create a mission to achieve them.

These four management functions depend entirely on well-developed communications skills. The ability to perform these functions can lead to effective and efficient work. An organization that is built on clear communication is one of success.
